Held a double poetry reading in the Café Clara, Berlin with the German poet Uwe Kolbe.

Began a lecture course on “Chinese Literature since 1978” to an M.A. class for the academic year at the University of Sydney.

Worked as Director in the poetry and writing room of the NSW library.

Attended the “Book Show” of the SBS television station in Australia, participated in the English dialogue “Chinese Language, History and Culture”.

August:
Gave solo poetry reading at the University of Sydney.

Gave solo poetry reading at the Melbourne University, Monash University and New-Castle University, Australia.

December 1993 – January 1994:
Visited Taiwan, attended the Conference on Contemporary Politics and Literature in Taiwan, gave readings and speeches, and made a round-the-island tour at the invitation of the Bureau for News, Administration Yuan.

1992:
January-May:
Visited U.S.A. to give reading in the universities Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Chicago, California, Massachusetts and colleges Amherst, Smith, Borokue, Dickinson, Long-Beach New School and also gave readings in the National Museum of New York and the “Z” Gallery of Soho.

May:
Joined the art project “Chinese Modern Poetry” held by the Academy of American Poets.

June-July:
Participated in a well-known literary project held in Yaddo together with my wife as the first Chinese poet and novelist ever invited to that project.
An entry with my biography will be included in the 7th edition of international Who’s Who (in the section of Poetry and Poets) published by Cambridge.

November:
Began a year long stay at the University of Sydney as a Visiting Scholar.

1991:
January-December:
Sponsored by DAAD (Duetscher Akademisher Austauschdienst, Germany) to stay in Berlin for one year as a writer in residence, wrote and gave readings, gave a speech “A Review of Chinese Culture”, attended the Art Festival “Wendland-Symposium”, organized the Art Festival “Lights and Flows”, gave interview to television programs, gave reading and speeches in the Universities of Bachum, Koln, Bonn, Heidelberg, Trubingen, Freiburg, Munich, Berlin and Marburg.

Visited Paris and Dijon on the invitation of the French Ministry of Culture to attend the publishing ceremony of an anthology of four Chinese poets.

April:
Visited the University of Prague, Czechoslovakia and gave readings.

May:
Visited Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain and gave readings and speeches.

June:
Visited Switzerland, gave readings in the municipal library of Basel, Participated in the Poetry International in Rotterdam and the Art Festival “Poetry on the Road”.

August:
Visited the University of Vienna, gave reading and attended a forum on modern Chinese poetry.

November:
Gave reading and speeches in the University of Milan, Bologna and Napoli, Italy and gave reading in the Poet’s Club in Rome.

1990:
May:
Attended “The Seminars of Overseas Chinese Writers” in Norway, assumed office as member of the editorial board of the magazine “Today”, participated in the “Dialogue Between Chinese and Norwegian Writers”, gave poetry readings.

June:
Visited Britain on invitation of the Great Britain and China Coucil, gave readings in the University of London, Cambridge, Leeds and Durham, attended a forum on the contemporary poetry of China at the University of Oxford.

August-November:
Compiled a text book of literary subjects in Chinese together with my wife, Liu You Hong, in Macquarie University.

September:
Participated in the Art Festival “Writers in the Park” held in Sydney, gave interviews to television programs on SBS about my two anthologies (Dead in Exile” and “Mask and Crocodile”) translated and published in Australia.

1989:
February:
Visited New Zealand on an invitation to attend “The Studio of Writers and Translators from China and New Zealand”, gave lectures on “Chinese Literature since 1979” at the University of Auckland.

September:
Together with New Zealand writers, organized the Art Festival “China The Survivors”.

Visited the University of Sydney.

Visited Australia on the invitation of the Australian Art Coucil to participate in the Sydney Festival and the Spoleto Festival of Melbourne, gave readings and speeches in the University of Melbourne, La Trobe, Adelaide, Sydney and the Australian National University.

1987:
Elected by Chinese readers as one of the “Ten most popular poets”, initiated the “Survivor’s Poets’ Club” in Beijing, edited the first issue of its magazine “The Survivors”.

1986:
Traveled abroad to accept an invitation to the “World-Wide Seminars of Chinese Literature” held in Germany, gave poetry readings at the University of Paris (VII), the University of Bordeaux, Barcelona, London, Vienna and Hong Kong.

1983:
Published the sequence “Nuoriiang”. My works have since been translated and reprinted in the magazine Renditions (Hong Kong) and Paris.

1980:
Edited the final issue of “Today” as one of the seven members of the magazine’s council before it was banned by the Chinese authorities.
Regarded by literary critics as one of the main writers of modernism which evoked a universal controversy in China.

1978:
Participated in the “Spring of Beijing” democratic movement as one of the main writers of the well-known underground literary magazine “Today”, published in the magazine “Dandelion” which was subsequently banned.

1970s:
Started writing during the “Cultural Revolution”.
